2026 Tree Canopy Assessment
The City of Vancouver, Washington is seeking consulting services to conduct a comprehensive Urban Tree Canopy Assessment. The project will analyze the city’s existing tree canopy using geographic information system data and recent vegetation mapping to evaluate current canopy coverage across public and private lands. The selected contractor will classify land cover types such as tree canopy, impervious surfaces, vegetation, and water features, and assess canopy distribution by zoning categories including residential, commercial, industrial, and public lands. The consultant will also identify potential tree planting locations and evaluate opportunities to expand canopy coverage to support stormwater management and environmental equity. Using ecosystem modeling tools such as the i-Tree suite, the study will quantify ecosystem services and analyze environmental benefits provided by urban trees. The contractor will produce GIS datasets, analytical models, and a final public-facing report presenting findings, trend analysis, canopy goals, and management recommendations to guide future urban forestry planning and policy development for the City.
