Burien Equitable Transit Oriented Development
King County is seeking a qualified developer to lease or purchase a portion of the Burien Transit Center property to create an affordable, mixed‑use, transit‑oriented development. The project aims to increase affordable housing supply near high‑capacity transit while supporting community priorities, equity goals, and sustainable development standards. The development must include multifamily residential units, active ground‑floor uses, and a comfort station for transit operators. Proposals should maximize the number of bedrooms, prioritize family‑sized units, and provide housing affordable to households at or below 60 percent of the area median income. The County will provide up to $10 million in capital funding and may offer additional incentives or consider land value. The project is intended to enhance downtown Burien, improve transit access, support non‑motorized travel, and reflect community input gathered through a formal engagement process.
