City of Santa Maria Drainage Study
The City of Santa Maria is soliciting proposals from qualified consulting firms to conduct a comprehensive citywide stormwater drainage study and develop a Flood Mitigation Master Plan. The study will evaluate the existing drainage and flood-basin infrastructure to identify deficiencies and recommend improvements to prevent flooding from heavy precipitation events. The consultant will perform hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, flow modeling, environmental and feasibility assessments, and develop schematic designs for three mitigation alternatives. These alternatives will be evaluated for technical feasibility, cost-effectiveness, compliance with environmental and historic preservation requirements, and eligibility for federal mitigation funding programs. Public engagement activities will also be conducted to gather community input before selecting a preferred alternative. The final plan will enable approximately 10 percent of the preliminary engineering design for future flood-prevention infrastructure projects. The effort supports hazard mitigation planning and aims to protect vulnerable communities, critical infrastructure, and public safety from flooding risks exacerbated by climate change and increasing storm intensity.
