Community Wildfire Protection Plan Development
Mason County is seeking proposals from qualified consultants to develop an updated Community Wildfire Protection Plan for the county. The previous plan was completed in 2012, and wildfire incidents have significantly increased since then, including a major surge in 2025 that resulted in more than 20,000 acres burned and over $50 million in suppression costs. The selected consultant will conduct wildfire risk assessments, analyze historical fire data, and develop geospatial mapping and modeling to identify high-risk areas and critical assets. The project includes stakeholder engagement with tribal governments, fire districts, utilities, businesses, and community organizations to gather input and identify mitigation strategies. Consultants will prepare recommendations for hazardous-fuel reduction treatments and community-level wildfire mitigation measures, including defensible space and home-hardening strategies. Deliverables include updated wildfire risk maps, a geospatial database, prioritized treatment recommendations, and documentation of stakeholder feedback. The final plan will be presented to county leadership and submitted for required approvals to support wildfire resilience and long-term community safety.
