Matilija Canyon Hydrogeologic Study Request for Statement of Qualifications
The Ventura County Watershed Protection District is seeking qualified consulting and water resource engineering firms to conduct a hydrogeologic modeling study in Matilija Canyon upstream of Matilija Dam. The purpose of this study is to evaluate potential impacts of the planned dam removal on upstream groundwater systems and domestic wells. The selected consultant will compile and analyze geological, hydrological, and land use data; develop a conceptual hydrogeologic model; and construct a numerical groundwater model to simulate both current and post-dam removal conditions. The study will assess groundwater elevation changes, flow dynamics, recharge, and potential risks to shallow wells, including impacts on yield and water quality. Deliverables include a comprehensive technical report with findings, uncertainty analysis, and recommendations for monitoring and mitigation strategies. This work supports environmental impact evaluation and long-term water resource management associated with ecosystem restoration efforts.
