WHAT THEY WANT
(Summarized from the RFP)
The Employment Development Department of the State of California is seeking a single contractor to deliver multilingual language services to the people it serves, chiefly on-demand over-the-phone interpretation, together with voice-over talent and scheduled video remote and in-person interpretation. The department administers unemployment insurance, disability insurance, paid family leave, payroll tax collection and job training, and many of its customers do not speak English. It handled about 50,000 telephonic interpretation calls in 2025, with volume rising every year and peaking in December.
