Pre-Employment Law Enforcement Background Investigation Services
The County of San Mateo Sheriff’s Office is seeking qualified vendors to provide pre-employment background investigation services for candidates applying to law enforcement and related positions. The selected contractor will conduct comprehensive background investigations to ensure applicants meet the legal, ethical, and professional standards required for public safety roles. Services include verifying employment and education history, reviewing criminal and civil records, conducting reference interviews, evaluating personal history statements, and identifying potential disqualifying conduct in accordance with California law enforcement hiring standards. The contractor will work with the Sheriff’s Office Professional Standards Bureau to produce thorough investigative reports that support hiring decisions and compliance with state and local regulations governing peace officer employment. The objective of this procurement is to supplement internal investigative capacity, ensure timely completion of background investigations, and maintain rigorous screening practices that protect community safety and uphold the integrity of the County’s law enforcement workforce.
