Solar Feasibility Study
The City of Carlsbad is seeking qualified engineering and consulting firms to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study for solar photovoltaic systems at six municipal facilities. The study will evaluate rooftop and ground-mounted solar potential, with optional battery energy storage systems, to determine technical viability and financial benefits prior to any design or construction. Services include site and roof assessments, shading and structural analysis, conceptual system layouts, system sizing, and identification of optimal battery storage locations. The consultant will also perform energy-use modeling, lifecycle cost estimation, return-on-investment analysis, and projections of energy savings. Additional work includes evaluating financing mechanisms such as power purchase agreements, reviewing permitting and zoning requirements, considering utility interconnection, estimating carbon reductions, and aligning with the city’s sustainability goals. Findings will guide the city in determining whether to proceed with future solar design and construction procurements.
