WHAT THEY WANT
The California State Controller's Office is seeking a consultant to help it fully incorporate cryptocurrency, virtual currency and other digital financial assets into the state's Unclaimed Property Program. Senate Bill 822 made digital financial assets subject to reporting and remittance in their native form under California's Unclaimed Property Law, so the Office must be able to receive, safeguard, administer and return these assets securely, compliantly and auditably. The consultant is expected to put the needed standard operating procedures in place during the 2026 holder reporting period so staff can then run the function on an ongoing basis.
