The City of Richland, Washington is soliciting statements of qualifications from consultants for engineering design services to stress test the city's Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) against a temporary, high-strength industrial discharge from Lamb Weston. The WWTP, built in 1985, is a 12 million-gallon-per-day complete-mix activated sludge plant fed by roughly 278 miles of sewer and operated by a staff of about 22 under the Wastewater/Stormwater Manager. The city wants to know whether the treatment system can absorb the added load, and on what conditions, before the discharge begins.
