WHAT THEY WANT
The City of Bellingham is seeking a consultant to conduct a Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment for the marine shoreline of Bellingham Bay within city limits. The assessment will identify how sea level rise and related coastal hazards will affect nearshore habitats, private property, and city infrastructure, including public access areas. The project is led by the Planning and Community Development Department with support from the Natural Resources Division of Public Works, and its findings will feed directly into the city's next Shoreline Master Program update, due in 2030, and a future city-wide adaptation plan. The work anticipates a proposed new section of WAC 173-26-246 requiring local governments to address sea level rise and increased storm severity.
